The federal Tories have made a decision to cut funding for the Canadian Heritage PromArt Program that provides travel grants for artists to travel abroad to promote Canadian culture. The reason is that some grant recipients are considered by government to be "radical, left-wing, anti-globalization". They also cite an experimental rock band "Holy F___" as a fringe alternative group that taxpayers should not be funding.
A recent poll at the Globe and Mail asked Canadians to respond to whether they support the federal government's recent decision to slash funding available through Canadian Heritage to artists working abroad.
Final Results -- more than 50% of responders said they do agree with the cut in funding. Wow!
